Description

FIXED VERSION OF OLD ROSE.EXE (sorry about that...) A crackme with multiple "stages" starting at beginner level, and progressively gets harder. x64dbg is recommended as i only tested it with that. Patching IS allowed and required for some stages (even some password/key stages). If the text is annoying/takes too long, patch out the print function. Make sure to not change save.txt or delete it. If you think it's too easy, only use static analysis/patching to crack. GLHF.

I have successfully solved the chicken's message but I am not sure if I have really completed the question properly. I will take another look at it. In the meantime, I would be very happy if the source code is shared with those who have completed rose.exe. I think that reading the source code of the crackmes I have completed contributes to my development.

In case you wrote that because of the low quality rating: don't worry, I have the impression that there is sometimes a hater around who gives all crackmes bad ratings and also lowers the difficulty – it has happened to me too. If you look at the other crackmes: many of them suddenly received bad ratings overnight. Strange, right? It would be best if everyone would rate, then intentionally bad ratings wouldn't have such a big impact. When writing this you had a 2.5 quality rating which is disrespectful and inappropriate, i will give it an upvote!

And i do understand if the crackme is genuinely not fun, because at the start of making this, i had no idea how to write a crackme and had to learn on the way (which explains the more experimental style). @ishaan09 read the FAQ of this website!

That one really took some time and effort :D But to be honest, i didnt enjoy it as much as i would like because of some aspects of given stage that i do not like in overall. I do not want to spoil here what exactly ;) Tomorrow will continue with next bouncy :D BTW: how many stages it has? I really hope i am almost at the end, would really love to finish it and write solution :)

xorkey on 2025-01-02 22:20: You are technically 3 tasks away from the end if you don't slip up... I'm going to be completely honest, screwing with your keyboard was not intentional, but i just left it in. There are ways to get around it, soo it shouldn't be tooo bad.

But i must say, reseting save is really dick move and if i lucky didnt make backup (i dont even remember why i did it), then after reset i would just drop crackme and moved on. WARNING FOR OTHER SOLVERS: Once you get to Stage 11 (Bouncers Arsenal), do BACKUP of your save! Stage contains resets in in case of almost successful attempts. You have been warned. Imagine someone would make something like Delete C: on failed attempt and then told you - this is a joke man :D

Because i am basically at the end, i have "working" password that passes all checks, shows correct message, but fails then after new stage is decrypted. There is one series of checks that seems to me bit strange and i suspect those could be cause of issues. So either i missed something or something doesnt add up :)

xorkey on 2025-01-12 02:46: The intended password does work, but there is a chance that the checks do not cover enough, and therefore is not possible. Maybe providing the "wrong" key could help me see the issue.

marci1175 on 2025-01-18 11:15: Hi! Im stuck on the bouncer part, and I dont really know how to proceeed. Ive tried finding the string "Bouncer: You ain't. . ." but it has no references in the disassembly. Ive tried dumping it which Ive succeeded at, and could find the string reference. Unfortunately, the assembly which the string is referenced at doesnt exist in the original exe disassembly. What did yall do at the bouncer? (Please note that Im very new to this :) ) Any help is appreciated!!!
